The Fortune Society's SMART Workshops program plays a vital role in nurturing creativity, self-expression, identity, and communication among children, especially those from underserved communities who often lack access to quality arts education.​

SMART Workshops program offer immersive, hands-on art experiences and guest panels led by professional artists. Workshops are held year-round at no cost to students, helping youth build creative confidence, communication skills, and emotional resilience in a safe, supportive, and enriching environment.

A key component of the program is mentorship. We intentionally connect students with professional BIPOC artists—mentors who are not their schoolteachers, but who come from similar backgrounds and have found entrepreneurial success in the arts. These mentors offer guidance, inspiration, and relatability that deeply resonate with students. Their presence sends a powerful message: that they, too, can build meaningful and creative lives, despite the obstacles they may face.
